These delegates have flatly refused to be interviewed, although some have been seen on television within the California floor delegation waving Trump signs.
The Trump delegates said that, like themselves, some Hispanic Republicans and others in California are refusing to publicly indicate their preference for Trump because of the threat of violence from MS-13.
The threats by MS-13 will only add to the debate over illegal immigration into the United States, an issue that has been one of Trump’s “red meat” concerns during the campaign.
Although it was California Trump delegates who were fearful of reprisals from MS-13, the gang also has strong roots in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, Boston, New Jersey, and Houston. Trump’s strong law and order message is apparently more popular among Hispanic voters, as a bloc, than current polling indicates. However, because of threats by MS-13 many likely Hispanic voters are hesistant to make their choice on November 8th known to pollsters or journalists.
